If you’re installing rock sliders on your Lexus LX 700h, this is the 10-minute walkthrough you’ll be glad you watched first. Jeff breaks down the full install with the exact socket sizes, nutsert locations, torque specs, and positioning tips that separate “bolted on” from properly frame-tied protection.

What this install covers (and why it matters)
The LX 700h is a special platform at a serious price point. The goal here isn’t just to “attach sliders”—it’s to tie into the frame correctly so impact loads distribute the way they’re supposed to.
In the video, Jeff covers:
-
Where each nutsert goes (and why)
-
The exact socket sizes you’ll need (19mm, 17mm, 13mm, 12mm)
-
Torque specs for proper load distribution
-
How to position the slider before tightening
-
Tips for installing solo vs. using a floor jack / second set of hands
Tools & supplies checklist (quick grab list)
Sockets / wrenches:
-
19mm (main lower/frame fasteners)
-
17mm (rear trailing arm bracket area fastener)
-
13mm (side/frame plate fasteners)
-
12mm (factory shield bolts you temporarily remove)
Recommended:
-
Torque wrench (don’t guess—torque matters on this install)
-
Nutsert tool (optional but makes life easier)
Jeff mentions a nutsert tool kit can be found online and makes the job much easier—especially if you’re doing all four inserts.
Step-by-step: LX 700h rock slider install (the way Jeff does it)
1) Install the nutserts (4 locations)
The sliders use four nutserts that expand inside the frame to “lock” the mount in place and increase strength under load.
Nutsert process (high level):
-
Thread nutsert onto the tool
-
Insert into the frame hole
-
Compress the tool until the nutsert fully expands and locks
-
Release tool and repeat for remaining locations
Jeff’s tip: nutserts take effort—pace yourself (your arms will feel it).
2) Create clearance by loosening/removing the shield bolts (12mm)
Before you lift the slider into place, remove the 12mm bolts from the shield/bracket area so you can slide the rock slider up behind it cleanly.
3) Hang the slider using a “guide hole” strategy
Jeff’s method:
-
Use the front hole near the pump as your reference/guide
-
Get one bolt started in the rear, then one on the other side
-
Start all bolts loosely first
-
Tighten everything only after all bolts are threaded and the slider is positioned correctly
This prevents cross-threading, fighting alignment, and “locking” the slider in the wrong spot.
4) Tighten + torque in the right order
Once everything is started and sitting correctly, torque to spec.
Torque specs (from the video)
22 lb-ft:
-
Side-of-frame fasteners (13mm locations)
35 lb-ft:
-
19mm fasteners on the bottom/frame legs (key mounting points)
Jeff also calls out a 17mm fastener in the rear/trailing arm bracket area.
Driver side vs passenger side note (don’t skip this)
Install is the same side-to-side, with one key difference:
-
One rear hole can be drilled for added support if you choose
-
On the other side, that location may be used for the gas tank skid area
Bottom line: mirror the install, but pay attention to the rear-most option on the opposite side.
Solo install tips (floor jack = cheat code)
Yes, you can do it solo—especially with a floor jack to hold and fine-adjust the slider while you start bolts. A second set of hands just makes it faster and easier to “wiggle” into perfect alignment.

FAQ
Do I need a nutsert tool to install these sliders?
No—but it makes the install much easier. Jeff notes you can improvise a method using a bolt/nut approach, but the tool saves time and effort.
Can I install the LX 700h rock sliders by myself?
Yes. A floor jack makes solo installation significantly easier for holding and positioning while you start bolts.
What socket sizes do I need?
Jeff uses 19mm, 17mm, 13mm, and 12mm during the install.
What are the torque specs?
Jeff calls out 22 lb-ft for the side/frame rail bolts and 35 lb-ft for the 19mm mounting points along the bottom/frame legs.
