Position Summary
Westcott Designs is seeking a highly detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector to take ownership of product quality across our manufacturing operation.
This position is solely responsible for ensuring that manufactured products meet Westcott Designs’ strict standards for fit, finish, function, appearance, and overall workmanship before they are approved for packaging and shipment to a customer.
The Quality Control Inspector / Manager serves as the final authority between manufacturing and fulfillment. Products that do not meet Westcott Designs standards will be rejected and returned to the appropriate department for rework or designated for scrap when necessary.
Beyond inspection, this position will work closely with the Operations Manager to identify recurring quality issues, improve manufacturing processes, establish inspection standards, and reduce defects and rework throughout production.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform final quality inspections on manufactured Westcott Designs products prior to packaging and shipment.
- Inspect products for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, fabrication quality, machining, hardware, coating/finish, assembly, appearance, and overall workmanship.
- Verify products meet established drawings, specifications, tolerances, and Westcott Designs quality standards.
- Approve or reject finished products based on established quality requirements.
- Stop products from moving to fulfillment or shipping when they do not meet quality standards.
- Return rejected products to the appropriate manufacturing department with clear documentation of the issue and required corrective action.
- Determine when products can be reworked versus when they should be scrapped.
- Re-inspect corrected products before approving them for shipment.
- Track defects, rework, scrap, and recurring quality issues.
- Identify trends and communicate quality concerns to the Operations Manager and appropriate production leads.
- Work with the Operations Manager to develop and improve quality-control procedures, inspection checkpoints, and manufacturing processes.
- Help identify root causes of recurring defects and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Maintain inspection records and quality documentation.
- Establish clear quality expectations and help ensure those standards are consistently understood throughout manufacturing.
- Provide feedback to production teams while maintaining accountability for Westcott Designs’ quality standards.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is extremely detail-oriented and takes pride in producing products at a high standard. This person must be comfortable rejecting work that does not meet expectations and communicating those issues professionally and clearly to production teams.
Candidates should have:
- Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, machining, welding, automotive aftermarket manufacturing, or a similar environment.
- Previous quality-control, inspection, or manufacturing leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing tolerances and quality standards.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, measurements, and product specifications.
- Experience using inspection and measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, tape measures, fixtures, and other QC equipment.
- Strong attention to cosmetic details, fit and finish, and workmanship.
- Ability to objectively determine whether a product meets established standards.
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify patterns and work with operations to improve processes rather than simply catching defects at the end of production.
- Confidence to hold products and processes accountable to established quality requirements, regardless of production deadlines.
