Why We Built It: Pre-Runner Style, Real Protection, Clean Install
Jeff calls it out in the release video: this bumper was designed from the start for the consumer install experience, but without losing what matters on the trail—clearance, protection, and function.
This package is engineered to deliver:
-
A true race-inspired pre-runner look
-
High-clearance approach improvements
-
Front-end protection that’s actually usable off-road
-
A setup that still makes sense as a daily driver
Integrated Skid Plates: Designed to Flow, Not Plow
This isn’t “bumper + random skid plate.” It’s a system.
Included in the package:
-
Integrated Skid Plates 1 & 2: Front Differential Skid Plate + Transmission Skid Plate
And the geometry matters. In the video, Jeff points out how much time went into the angle and transition so the truck rides up and over obstacles instead of catching on sharp edges.
Service-friendly access (no full removal)
One of the best real-world touches: the skid plate includes inspection/access covers so you can reach the oil filter and service areas without dropping the full skid.
Sensors: We Did the Homework
A big part of why people hesitate on aftermarket bumpers is sensors—especially on newer Toyotas.
Parking sensors retained
This system is designed to preserve factory fitment and front/rear parking sensors (no “delete” vibes).
Important note on Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) with the light bar option
If your truck is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, the light bar version may obstruct the TSS sensor and can affect pre-collision assist / trigger a dash warning. Westcott includes a clear disclaimer and notes that the system can be manually disabled (but may reset when the vehicle is turned off).
Recommendation: Westcott advises using Toyota’s newer sensor retainers to relocate TSS sensors: Toyota Part # 89348-34060-C1.
Two Looks: Clean Pre-Runner or Light Bar Ready
This release gives you two directions depending on your build style:
1) Clean Pre-Runner Bumper
For the “simple and tight” crowd—minimal front-end visual clutter, classic pre-runner stance.
2) Pre-Runner Bumper + Light Bar Option
For anyone building a desert runner, night trail rig, or just wants to light up the road ahead (note: lights not included).
Jeff also teased different bumper lengths for long-travel / wider fender setups in the video—built around real-world fitment, not one-size-fits-none thinking.
Built for the Way Tundras Get Used
Westcott positions this bumper as ideal for:
-
Overlanding
-
Pre-running / desert-style setups
-
Trail rigs
-
Tundra owners who want protection and stance without going full winch bumper
And if you’ve followed Westcott for a while, this one is a full-circle moment: it nods back to the popular pre-runner bumper from the earlier long-travel Tundra days—rebuilt for the 3rd Gen platform with modern fitment and sensor realities.
